Hybrid first-person defense game

Outpost: Infinity Siege is a premium action game from Team Ranger and Lightning Games. This sci-fi game is a hybrid experience, combining first-person shooters, tower defense, and base-building elements for a fast-paced experience. Take charge of a Mobile Outpost and bring your modifiable XEN Firearm to explore an alien world.

While the game concept is promising, Outpost: Infinity Siege still leaves a couple of rooms for improvement. For experienced players, it quickly becomes a tedious looter-shooter experience that loses its story and strategic aspect. Once improved, it could be an impressive mix of Deep Rock Galactic and They Are Billions.

Build your outpost in a hostile world

In Outpost: Infinity Siege, you play as the average soldier Fae, struggling to reclaim an Earth that humanity has lost to an AI of their design. The game progresses by letting you pick a location, set up your outpost, and fight off hordes of mechanized monsters. You get to shoot at enemies, build turrets and fortifications, or do both in a chaotic and fast-paced action experience.

Play with friends in multiplayer co-op or enjoy it as a single-player game. The variety of levels keep the game from being outright boring, with a range of easy and difficult stages. Some are short and intense while others get grindy but overall, create a well-rounded experience. The highly customizable XEN Firearm is a major point, with its versatility being the cherry on top of a great FPS aspect.

The largest drawback in the game, however, is its story. Its plot is generic and the cutscenes rarely add value to the narrative. The voice work is often drowned out by the background sounds. Aside from the story, some set designs fail to maintain the game’s energy. Its manual resource gathering and lack of late-game balance between the FPS and tower defense aspects are some areas that could use improvements.

An enjoyable crossover experience

In Outpost: Infinity Siege, players immerse themselves in a thrilling battle to reclaim Earth from an AI threat, wielding a range of tactics from fortification-building to intense combat. Whether in multiplayer or solo play, the game offers diverse levels and the highly customizable XEN Firearm adds depth to the FPS experience. However, its lackluster story and occasional design flaws detract from an otherwise engaging gameplay. With some adjustments, it could truly shine as a top-tier action game.
